WEB 40C inland with yellow warning for vulnerable people
Inland temperatures on Thursday are expected to peak at 40C with a yellow warning in place from 12.
The yellow warning for hot weather, which is the lowest level, was issued by the Met Office and is in place from noon until 8pm on Thursday. The warning covers much of the inland areas of the island, including Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos. The Met Office has advised vulnerable people to take extra precautions to stay cool and hydrated, and to avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
The high temperatures are caused by a combination of factors, including a hot air mass from North Africa and light winds. The Met Office has forecast that the hot weather will continue into the coming days, with temperatures expected to remain in the high 30s Celsius.
